Caltech for MD....

I've been looking at Caltech's physics program, and I'm really interested in it. However, my ultimate goal is get an M.D/PHd. I know A's are much harder to obtain at Caltech than at a CC, but wouldn't med schools know this and take it into consideration? Would having a less than stellar GPA and a few ECs make you a less favorable candidate than your local college counterpart and end up diminishing your chances of obtaining admission into a medical school?

They do take it into account, however Med Schools are notorious for being sticklers about GPAs, a complaint you hear often here from PreMed folks. That said, those who apply to Med Schools from here tend to do well at where they get into, but I'm sure there is a selection bias there. Oh, and while I'm sure you just tossed in CC's as a rhetorical device, but no MD/PhD program is going to consider someone from a CC

Medical schools really, really care about GPA.

If you are a high achiever with a great high school record and high SATs, you should apply to a college that feeds you into their own med school...like Brown and a bunch of others. That way, you're not sweating getting into Med school at all.

Do your homework on colleges where this is possible. It's worth the few hours of research necessary.
