Caltech/MIT/Pomona/Yale info session

Has anyone attended the info tour put on by these four colleges together? How is it organized? Do you sit through four presentations and q&a sessions? How long does that take? I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the drive and time to sit through a presentation about four schools when only one of them is on my daughter’s list.

I attended it in Cheyenne Wyoming last year, as a volunteer EC from MIT, and I really think this meeting is well done. You do have to sit through all four presentations, each about 20 minutes, with slides and humor, and its a great way to learn about four great schools and their strengths. Then, the meeting breaks down and you can ask questions, individually of the presenters, and listen to other student’s questions. Dean of Admissions, Stu, from MIT does a fantastic job, and I think you may learn a lot about Caltech which in some ways is a similar school. Pomona and Yale are very dissimilar but may be of interest if your daughter wants to study any science, including CS. For a school like Pomona College, it will count as interest, which is very important to Pomona admissions officers, but all the schools tracked who show up to these meetings. So the box called “interest” will be checked for all four schools, if your daughter attends this one meeting. Since MIT does not travel alone to some regions, it may be worth it, but check the MIT travel schedule to see if there is an individual meeting in your area. Probably not, if this meeting is coming to your area this year.

Thanks!
