There are people here with 3.9s from the likes of Princeton and Berkeley and 5.0s from MIT in chem e here. Get over yourself.

^ You think I don't realize that? Sorry Mr big shot, but I wasn't the one who stated that graduating first in class would not matter from schools like Minnesota or Wisconsin. Let me suggest you take your own advice and get over *your*self. Damn am I glad I didn't get into your school now!

That was pretty rude. I would have gone to Berkeley and got my 3.9 there if I could have afforded everything. But I couldn't so I settled for my school. Graduating from those schools doesn't make you better by the way... It just means you had more competition

Cpngrats on caltech man! Can't wait to get my rejection.

^ well thats hypothetical

OchemE, I think he'd rather not have you there due to your inability to take any sort of joke or criticism.

Hyothetical of what? Did you mean hypocritical?

hypothetical that you would get a 3.9 at berkeley

Congratulations.

to Nrets:

I apologize if that offended you. While going to MIT or another top private and doing well would make you a better candidate, it doesn't make you a better or more knowledgeable person. What I was getting at was the fact that there are people with near perfect GPAs and other superb qualifications from MIT and other top schools (the salutatorian from princeton a few years back is in the chem e department) here who did not expect to get in. Given that, it seemed ridiculous that people like ocheme are arrogant enough to think they deserved to get in when the process is ridiculously competitive.

I definitely wasn't expecting to get in to those schools. I mean after I lost my 4.0 I knew my chances went down. Having no research experience in my field of interest (materials) didn't help either.

But I. Also wasn't expecting a rejection from Santa barbara. It was actually my safety school. I do not think I will get into anymore schools and should be happy I got into any of them. The job field is somewhat difficult also because my resume screams grad school and not industry. When I interviewed for a job today at a nuclear power plant the guy said he thought I had other aspirations and I admitted I had applied to schools. I don't have practical experience just research.

Whoa,
I already admitted the competition is steep, I don't think I am entitled to get in just because of my credentials. When people start discounting your gpa/class standing because of the school they (think) you went to as an undergrad, I am going to defend that. THAT is rude, and arrogant.

"joke"?
If anything he said about Wisconsin/Berkeley/Minnesota was a joke, it would have been nice of him to indicate so. I can take criticism. Hell, I will be the first to admit I am probably not at the top of applicant pool, even though I do think I am halfway competitive at most of the schools. And if he's going to criticize, he should stick to things on an individual level, rather than start going after the credibility of people's programs. Anyway, let's just end this. He apologized to Nrets, let's put it to rest. Best of luck to everyone still waiting on answers.
