In the flyer I received, it says: "Caltech Up Close is for seniors who have begun pursuing their passions within math, science, and engineering, and come from communities and backgrounds which are historically underrepresented in the STEM fields."

My parents are encouraging me to apply for it, but I don't think I'm applicable because I'm Indian. Does "historically underrepresented" mean minorities? or just native american/african american/hispanic?

Also, I am a male. How does this affect by chances of being eligible for the program.

Are you American Indian?

Caltech tries to recruit minorities and women with this specific program, by paying for the visit and getting you to visit and impress you what they have to offer.

Getting invited is a good thing since you have made a short list of recruits Caltech likes. However, if you don’t apply you don’t know whether you have a shot at Caltech.

I think they select about 40 people.

Nope. Both of my parents are Indian immigrants. I guess I’ll give it a try, but I don’t think it’s likely that I’ll be selected

Did you get into the program @joey1234? I was just wondering how it was for you since the application should open soon.
