I am a freshman home from college for the summer. I am trying to decide what to do this summer. Earlier, I was offered an internship in animal care at a Wildlife Rescue Center. I am not sure what I want to do yet for my career, but I am interested in perhaps pursuing a career in conservation or environmental science and was hoping it might give me a better idea of what those fields are like. However, it is also unpaid and requires me to work at least 24 hours a week with a somewhat un-flexible schedule. At the same time, I was offered a job as an online summer camp instructor in technology and maker-space based classes. I love teaching and these are subjects I am interested in as well. The job also pays decently well and has better hours, which would be really important for me to save up money for college later. However, I am worried I would be giving up an important opportunity by turning down the internship. I asked the director at the wildlife rescue center and she said she could not accommodate for me to do both. Would you guys have any recommendations? How would either of these look on my resume?
Take the paying job.
While the idealist in me says take the internship, the realist says take the money.
