Of course you shouldn't trust the stereotypes-- it's all about your personal experience. I visited Princeton a couple of times and always met really nice, friendly, down-to-earth people. And of course the fellow 09ers here are just awesome. I think you'll find pretentious people everywhere, but no school is going to be entirely snobby. I actually found the Harvard admissions officer and tour guide extremely smug. Not to say I don't know nice people from Harvard too, but I'm not going to start saying that the SCHOOL is snobby. It's the PEOPLE that make up a school, and you just can't generalize about thousands of people like that.

You guys are all going to Princeton because you visited, applied, spent HOURS (it can add up to a few days total, probably more) discussing your love, and rejoicing when you finally got in. Eating Clubs may still have some traces of elitism, but I think that for you guys it wont matter because of the strong emotions you feel about the school. So in the end, just be like, okay eating clubs arent great for everyone, but I like Princeton and that's why I'm going. You dont need to defend them (maybe they don't even need defending, they are what they are). And then certain people wont be able to reply and try to dissuade you. :)

I'd find it rather adventurous to make a sweeping judgement on an institution whose entire population changes every four years.

Oh, but what is pride but defending our beloved institution? I just can't help it :p

theoneo - i agree. there is a reason many people seem to be having a debate between stanford vs princeton when it comes down to decision time in may. they have the most "fun" people. im sry but harvard just doesnt cut it when talking about students with social lives.

Hehe, I read an article last night from the Crimson saying that Harvard and Yale are pretty equal in terms of the social scene, and they definitely can't beat Princeton.

Actually, another major factor was when I talked to my interviewer and current students are Princeton and Harvard. During my Princeton interview, my interviewer told me specifically that Princeton is very cliqueish, although you will find your own group there. Now, perhaps that may appeal to some people, but for me, that immediately turned me off. Of course, she went to Princeton several years ago and I am sure it has since gotten better at Princeton.

As for the social life at Harvard, I was very worried that Harvard's social life sucks. Then I realized that every new class of students are different and will bring a different social atmosphere to the university. After the publication of the survey and its findings that Harvard students were unhappy, many admits were very concerned and have vowed to make Harvard funner (look at thefacebook groups... we got plenty of ones that claim that c/o '09 will be great). If someone goes into Harvard with the right attitude, they will not have a miserable time by any means. This came through when I talked to current students and their complete satisfaction with the school and its social life. As they say.... "college is what you make of it".

good luck to Princeton people. cya during the football game.

"I read an article last night from the Crimson saying that Harvard and Yale are pretty equal in terms of the social scene"

I read the article in the Crimson magazine that said that Yale's social scene beasts Harvards. Obviously, they cant be trusted. :)

Haha and since when is a facebook group indicative of how great the social scene is? If anything, people who have time to make all those groups are not out partying! lol
but I agree, college is what you make of it, and it depends on the people, which is why we can't make generalizations about any of these places.

Zante - thats not my point. My point is that with the release of the survey, the incoming classes are going to work even harder to make sure that Harvard is fun. The facebook groups are just one part of the organization by students of the class of 2009 to ensure that Harvard will be fun and exciting. And uh.. about people not out partying because of those groups... its the summer and people sit around all day... excited about the upcoming school year. All the parties that are still accessible to us are High School parties.

lol I was just joking, as you can tell when I said "I agree with you"

So you guys are "making sure it is fun?" I thought fun was a more spontaneous form or enjoyment, with restrictions and premeditated plans of action.

prefontaine, what do you have to worry about? I would care more about running those marathons and making sure not to die of a car crash before your promising career has barely begun...

(we had to watch the movie in track)

Prefontaine - it means we're going to organize parties, trips to boston, etc. We'll be much more unified = D

Zante - sorry lol. I couldn't see your sarcasm.. just as sometimes people can't see mine.

filmxoxo17, that was quite possibly the most disrespectful comment I have seen on this board. First of all, you are really ignorant. Pre specialized in the 2-8k distances, at one point holding all US records at the ripe age of 22. He never once tried to run marathons at a really high level, that is typically an event that favors older, more physically mature athletes. If you accomplish an ounce of what Pre did for this country (i.e popularizing a sport that was fading in the heart's our of nations youth), I will commend you dearly. But until that day, please do not disparage the name of a man that is much more than a runner. But I guess you have nothing promising, so you are relegated to hating on a national icon.

Well I... Hmm... What I meant was... er...
Youre quite angry, which is weird. I keep on trying to write something, but I dont even know what to say, lol, that was such an angry, unwarranted post.
Why dont you take a couple of laps and run it off? :)

Hey Prefontaine... that was the most disrespectful comment uve seen on this board? Nah, you wrote the most disrespectful comment I have seen on this board:
