Campus Confusion

Hi! I have a question about Penn State Campuses. Overall, I have heard that Penn State has about 24 campuses. Does it really matter which campus you go to? I plan to major in computer science and just got into Penn State Harrisburg. Is University Park like the best campus to go to or are other campuses equally good? Also, if University Park is the best campus to go to, is it possible to transfer right away into University Park during my first year of college? Thanks for your help!

As the flagship campus, U Park is considered the best. But of the branch campuses, Harrisburg is considered one of the best. You are automatically allowed to transfer after your second year, but transferring after your first would be hard. To increase your chances if that, work towards a 4.0 to prove your worth

They generally only allow you to transition earlier if your major requires it. If the classes are available at the satellite campus then, in general, you would be required to stay there for 2 years and transition for your junior year. As for differences in the campuses - it depends on what you mean. When you graduate from PSU, your degree will not state that you went to a satellite campus (though your transcript will)…It will just say Penn State. All degrees are equal regardless of the campus. Now, if you mean environment, resources and locations…well, there are huge differences between the campuses. Penn State Harrisburg has about 3500 students on campus. Penn State University Park campus has 40,000+. University Park campus is in a more rural location - Harrisburg more Suburban. University Park entrance requirements are higher than the satellite campuses which is why you will hear people say that the main campus is the ‘best’, but any of them can be the best depending on what you are looking for. Regardless, you will likely graduate from the main campus and your degree will say as much.
