I am a parent and would like help in understanding campus life (outside the classroom) at schools which have a large Greek presence. Specifically, how do minority students acclimate? Are there separate Asian, Hispanic, African-American sororities and fraternities or are they integrated? Also, does campus life turn into a dual society, where those in sororities and fraternities socialize mainly with other Greeks while non-Greeks date and socialize together?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My school( UIUC) apparently has the largest greek system in the country. Regarind your first question here we have all kinds of minority related frats ( on top of my head i know there is one black frat, one latino, one indian and then one multicultural frat here). Same goes for sororities too. At the same time, a LOT of minorities are in general frats and sororities too so race isnt really an issue. Although i have noticed one or two frats with an all white population except for that one "token" black or an asian guy in it ......but i dont think it was meant to be that way.
As far as socializing with other people goes. that is more of a personal question although it is far more easier for greeks to socialize with other greeks because of all the exchanges they have together. I have also heard a lot of rumors about the top sororities only dating boys from the top fats but dont know how much of that is true
