campus employment included in financial aid..

if campus employment is included in financial aid, is it required for you to work?? can you choose not to work?? because the money you make will probably be for personal expenses...

Work is not required. All the money you make goes to you - it is Princeton giving you a way to make the spending cash Mom and Dad might not be able to chuck at you.

I would still recommend a job though, even if it's only for 4 hours a week. Library jobs are literally get-paid-to-study, while dining hall work gives you loads of free meals to use as late meals, since you don't use a meal to eat every time you work the corresponding shift. Chapel choir is a good way of improving your singing while getting paid. You also get half off voice lessons if you join.

Any other cool jobs you know princetoners(urg...any other name to call you ppl?)?

I offer Swedish massage for $25 an hour. I started last spring and made quite a bit in my spare time.

Some students work for the psych department and get paid for studies. Some library jobs can be cool as well; one guy scans ancient maps as his job. Most are just clerical/staffing work though. Dining hall is by far the most flexible in terms of scheduling shifts and switching times.

What does it mean if one is on "work-study"? Does that just mean that a campus job is included in your aid package? i.e. if I were on work study, would I know?

There are two kinds of work-study: a Princeton job, and Federal work-study. Federal limits the amount of money you can earn; a Princeton job doesn't.

But yes, that means you are guaranteed employment. However, you must actively seek out the jobs you want - library jobs are filled early and hard to come by later in the year. Otherwise, you'll be stuck doing dining hall work.

Haha I'm stuck doing dining work.

What about working in the Ustore? Is that good?

You're not stuck with the job that's assigned to you. Feel free to apply for any job. As long as you're on work-study, it's ok.

Working at the UStore is great. You get discounts on many items, and you can borrow textbooks for free. Probably one of the best jobs on campus, considering how much money it can save you.

I got a job organizing rare and old maps at Firestone. Pay is 10.40 an hour, don't know yet how good of an idea it is, but it's money :)
