When we stay over for orientation, where do we stay? For instance, if we are assigned to New/North to live next year, is that where we will stay for orientation also?

I KNOW I will forget something next year… I don’t live far so it’s not that big of a deal, but what are some items you wish you had remembered/brought more of/couldn’t live without, etc? (I asked this already on another thread, but I only got one answer, though it was helpful because I probably wouldn’t have thought of that - powerstrips/extension cords)

Your orientation sleeping location isn't related to where you'll stay next year...

My daughter especially appreciated having a small fan in her dorm room. They get stuffy with no a/c on hot days. A glass plate/bowl/mug that can go in the microwave are useful if you might be wanting to heat up food, and a big bowl for your microwave popcorn is useful as well. :)

For my s, I bought a 4 drawer plastic container from Office Depot and filled it with:
OFFICE SUPPLIES (stapler, tape, pens, white-out, thank-you notes, stamps, envelopes, calculator, blank cds, etc.),
MEDICINE KIT (Advil, cold medicine, cough drops, Pepto Bismal, Tums, bandaids, Neosporin, etc.),
TOOL KIT (hammer, screwdriver-plus and minus, tape measure, pliers, etc.)

We also bought the 4 drawer plastic container from Office Depot. Along with that, we bought a small plastic handled portable boxed file cabinet filled with files. I noticed my daughter was able to keep her USC documents and paperwork organized throughout the year without fear of misplacement.

We also bought those portable cleaning bins with handle made for cleaning supplies. In one bin, we placed all her toiletries for the shower and bathroom plus a first aid kit. Everything fits nicely and she was able to keep her things organized. In another, we placed cleaning supplies such as shower spray, toilet bowl cleaner, air freshener, etc. With everything made available, the suitemates used everything and they had no cleaning problems.

When moving my daughter out, I was pleased how easy it was to pack it all in the car. And, everything was used, yet organized.

This is an excellent thread with lists of what to bring

Forget the small fan. Get a huge one because the beginning of the year is VERY hot.

Paper plates/cups/bowls/etc. are a must if you're too lazy to wash dishes.
