Freshman @ USC

Hi my son will be a freshman at USC in Aug. He is a foreign student and will stay at the dorm. Not sure what he is going to bring. He knows he will have a room mate. Is he going to bring TV, microwave, fridge? Thanks a lot.

The dorm will have a microfridge

See page 5: http://housing.usc.edu/forms/13_FreshmanLiving(FNL)LR.pdf</a> Suggestions about what to bring are on page 6. He will be able to purchase most items at local stores (such as Target) upon arrival. USC will provide buses to local discount department stores.

He is going to LOVE it!

Thank you Sir. We cant wait to go in Aug. We are all excited.

My son is a freshman there this year, and they really don’t need that much stuff. The dorm rooms are nice, but relatively small. My son is in a suite, and they have a common area. They watch tv in the girl’s suite across the hall or on their computers. I do recommend a mattress topper of some sort - the mattresses are not that comfortable on their own.

He has had a great first year there and will be very ready to go back in August! Congrats to your son - he will love it!!

Lacroix, just curious, what country are you from? One thing we love about USC is how international the student body is.

BeachLover, thanks for the mattress topper tip, I had not thought of that. Someone recommended a backpack style laundry bag. Any other tips would be appreciated!

Our D has enjoyed her freshman year. I would agree on the mattress topper, some style of laundry bag, towels, sheets. I got a set of those wire cube things–she’s in a suite and they used them under the sink in the bathroom. And a towel rack that hangs on the back of the door. A mug for tea/coffee in the room. Our D is in Parkside, there was a microwave/refrig in the room already.

Check into Bed Bath and Beyond. You should be able to order online and pick up near USC. You can order “extras” and then just decline them when you pick up if he decides they are not needed. That gives you some options.
