I am a “freshman” (with 66 credits). I was hoping to get some pointers on housing. Lakeside (because its closest to the gym) and Weaver (because its international) seem to be my top picks, but I don’t know how that works with my classes. I am a Spanish major so I believe my classes will be in the middle of campus, but at the same time I want to be in an apartment style or single suite room.
So my questions are:
- Is it a big deal if I stay a little ways from my classes? For example, if I stayed at Lakeside, how long would it take me to get to the middle of the campus on the bus?
- Which dorms are closet to fresh food markets or Publix or any other grocery store with healthy food?
- None of the dorms have a lot of bugs, right? Living in Florida, I know some places are more prone to bugs lol
Lakeside is NOT next to a winn-dixie lol. Sorry! But, the 1 and 12 bus routes go to Butler Plaza, which contains 2 (!) Publixes, a Trader Joes, a Target, and a Wal-Mart! Rawlings is right next to a stop for the 12, and Jennings, Broward, and Beaty are close to a stop for the 1.
All of the dorms are exterminated for bugs. At Preview you might see some roaches (just warning ya!) but during the year they’re not really a problem. I’ve seen a grand total of one roach, which was in our bathroom and promptly killed by our RA. I’ve also seen a spider in my room once, but that was the only time I’ve ever had a bug in my room!
(Well, actually, there was also a ladybug, but it stayed on the window and wasn’t bothering me. I know my neighbors said their room was having a ladybug problem, but that’s mostly since their room was right by the stairwell, which had a LOT of ladybugs in it at one point. We still don’t know how that happened lol)
If you live in the Murphree area, you’d be closest to your classes (though Rawlings is fairly close, too!)
I was looking online, and it says the route 12 runs 24 hours? Is that true?
