We’ve been reading a lot of positive things about Gonzaga and it looks like it might be a good fit for my D23. However, one thing that keeps popping up are concerns about campus safety and the surrounding area. Hearing about student cars and houses being broken into frequently; suspicious people loitering on campus at night, etc. I know this kind of thing can happen on many campuses but I am concerned about my student’s safety. Can anyone share any current personal experiences with the Gonzaga campus and if the university is addressing these issues? TIA
From Gonzaga’s own website:
Go to the LexisNexis Community Crime map and type in zip code 99258. It won’t give you specifically on-campus crimes, but it will show the neighborhood.
It’s interesting that 60% of the students live off campus.
My daughter is a freshman at Gonzaga, and I think the Gonzaga link on campus safety posted by the CC user accurately describes the situation. My daughter feels safe around campus. We have heard about vehicle prowls in the parking lots, but unfortunately, that is common in most cities. If my daughter walks to off-campus social events/parties in the Logan Neighborhood at night, she just goes with a group of friends. So far, safety in numbers has worked, and she has not had any issues (knock on wood). Like any city, Spokane has its share of property crime, but compared to our hometown of Seattle, there appears to be far less violent crime, and that is what I worry about the most.
