i'm interested in the university of scranton which is about 54 acres (the stuff they sent me in the mail said that). is that freakishly small for a campus? i've only been on about three college campuses--marist college (about 100 and BEAUtiful), queens college (not sure) and manhattan college (about 30 if i remember correctly). does it feel small? when i saw manhattan college, i felt like i was trapped because you could litterally see everyone on campus and walk across the whole thing in about 5 minutes. also, it is in new york city (not manhattan, the bronx) so that might have had made it seem even more enclosed.

i've lived in the city my whole life and want to have a different, more suburban experience. does u of scrancton offer that?

i dont know about the specific colleges you mentioned, but i go to a college where it does take about 5 minutes to walk from one side to the other. i dont feel trapped, and i dont have to leave my dorm 450 minutes before class to get to class on time. i dont know about acres, either, but my school takes up about 2.5 blocks and i dont think i'd enjoy it any other way. it may seem like you'll never get to meet new people, but there ARE always people you dont know.

yeah I wish I had that luxury. I go to Northwestern and even though our campus isn't as big as some state schools, it feels like it takes forever to get from the edge of North campus (where my dorm is) to the music buildings at the very edge of South campus. I guess it's "only" about a 15 minute walk from North to South but it seems like it takes forever when you're carrying your books, doing nothing but watching the scenery go by endlessly. Wish our campus was more centralized, instead of an elongated North-South layout.

i wouldnt mind not having to walk for 15 minutes to get to my classes but its just the feeling of being enclosed in small areas lol...i kinda like some scenery around, maybe a body of water or two and buildings that are somewhat spaced out.

Well, we have some empty land next to the campus that's good for going on walks etc. And we don't have gates around the campus so it's not like you're enclosed anyway.

U of I is huge and I love that. I like the walks but they can get annoying if you're late or in a hurry rushing around. Then you rely on the buses. I need a lot of space. I'd feel cramped a small college (physically and socially). I felt crushed by U of C (really it's not big but has a huge friggin city around it) so I knew that the biggest college I could get to was the best decision. I'm also looking the same way for law schools. Lots of students, lots of room.

smile, I don't know about the size, but if you did not feel comfortable, then why apply? There are so many choices. By the way, U of Scranton is an excellent school with lots of individual attention.

the only one of your colleges listed that i know of is marist. i live about 15 minutes away from it. its a nice school, and somewhat small too. it's not my kinda college (not as diverse or big as i would like), but if you've visited it and liked the atmosphere, then it could be great for you. usually, no matter how many acres your college has, you will probably not go to all of them anyways, so dont make physical size such a big part of your college choice.

personally i think that's small. my campus is 2000 acres.

getting from my dorm on the lower west side of campus to the upper east edge of academic buildings takes about 20-25 minutes to walk. plus there are shuttles around.

I plan on going to ohio univ. its about 2000 acres which as actually mid-sized for colleges and i wouldnt have it any other way. I dont think its too big or too small plus the town revolves around the college and its in the middle of nowhere (on the west virginia border) so its really laid back
