Last night, I read some terrible things about campus strictness.

Is it true that Wellesley is really strict? I was picturing Wellesley as a place of independence, and I kind of consider Wellesley my dream school.

Also, what are my chances at Wellesley? What do you think I can do to improve my chances of getting in?

I have a 2090 on the SAT, 580 Math, 720 Reading, 790 writing. I had to send them my ACT because I don't have subject tests. My ACT is a 25, so I sent my SAT too. I go to a community college/high school and my only non-honors classes have been electives, health, and p.e.

Unweighted GPA: 3.25
Weighted: Nearly 4.0
College GPA this semester: 4.0
Community Collge Credits: 22, will be around 37
AP scores: 5 on English Language and Comp., 4 in U.S. History, 4 in European History
Extracurricular stuff: Philosophy club, ROTC, Horticulture/ffa, volunteering, etc.

I find Wellesley to be a wonderful place where I can be happy and be myself. Wellesley does have a strict honor code-- this is a good thing, because professors trust students and students have the privilege of self scheduled exams.

I am pleased that the honor code is strict, but I am concerned about the alcohol policy and such. Do campus police respect privacy and let little things go? Are you mostly free to behave, express yourself, and live as you please?

How exactly do the self-scheduled exams work? How is the honor code related to what day or time you decide to do an exam? Aren’t there designated classrooms with proctors where students do them?

Another question my daughter had about exams is whether it’s true that in many classes students are given the choice between either taking an exam or writing a paper?

In general, Wellesley treats its students as adults. Students who are of age may have and consume alcohol in their rooms. Unlike many college students at other schools, Wellesley students do not have an antagonistic relationship with campus police (known as campus po). I do not feel that campus po “is out to get” students, but they will respond to complaints. Note: the town of Wellesley is a dry town, so students have to purchase alcohol someplace else.

A professor who is giving an exam during finals period has a choice of a fixed exam or a self scheduled exam. Fixed exam dates and times are determined by the registrar. They tend to be language classes, but of course they can be in any subject. Self scheduled exams can be taken during any exam slot during exam week. Students must show their ID to pick up their exam, but the exam room itself is not proctored ([Wellesley College - Student Life - Honor Code FAQ](http://web.wellesley.edu/web/StudentLife/TheHonorCode/honorcodefaq.psml)). Students are on their honor not to cheat during the exam or discuss the exam with class mates who haven’t taken it yet. I have never had an option of a term paper or a final, but I suppose it’s theoretically possible (and dependent on individual classes/ professors).
