campus tour guide as a job

I really want to be give campus tours at Rice. Does Rice emply students to give tours or do they give volunteer hours? If anyone has done this before, I would like to hear more about it!

Thanks!

I believe that they are volunteers. I know that the student interviewers are volunteers. There are plenty of other good student jobs, though. Some even go unfilled because there are so many available.

during the school year they're volunteers, during the summer they get paid I believe

I'm a tour guide; we're all volunteers. You can work for the admissions office over breaks and get paid, but otherwise the entire Student Admissons Council comprises volunteers. I think it's a better system for tour guides; you automatically get enthusiastic people, and they can tell their tours that they're volunteers and thus are not influenced by the administration in any way.

If you really want to become a tour guide, I strongly reccommend it, even though you won't get paid. It's a whole lot of fun. You can't do it until second semester of your first year, though.

Thank you so much- I think it will be fun!
