After hearing so much about Vandy I'm almost convinced to apply ED2. However, I've never actually been to the campus, and before I choose ED2 I want to be able to have a look at Vandy and have a feel for what it'd be like to be a student if I got in. Is it too late to visit now, when the majority of Vandy students have already left for home? I mean if I visit will I feel at least close to the real "Vandy" mood? I need reassurance before I commit to ED2.

When I visited Vandy I visited over a Winter Break, and I have to admit that it was tough to get a feel for the school seeing as the only students on campus (it was absolutely dead) were a few athletes who had games over break. Whenever I visited schools while kids were on campus I felt I got a much better feel for the school as a whole, but that's just me. If you really like the school and are deadset on it even without a campus visit that takes place while students are on campus then I say go for it, but if you have any doubts at all I would wait and apply RD, or submit the app and then try and visit it in January and then pull the app if you absolutely dislike the school for some reason.

^^^I probably agree with that. Having students around is important. Being able to get into buildings is kind of essential also. You could still see that the campus is very nice, compact and relatively easy to negotiate, get a look at the new freshman residential complex on the Peabody portion of the campus, and notice the number of restaurants and coffee shops on the periphery of the campus.

Of course, if you want to talk with professors or sit in on a class or two, visiting over break is out.

Although it's too late to go and sit in on a class, Vanderbilt students will be on campus through Saturday (with diminishing numbers through the week as they leave campus for home). This fall's academic calendar concludes later than usual, largely due to an accomodation for completion of construction at The Commons. S's first semester concluded almost this late, however. Vanderbilt students get a full week for Thanksgiving and that sometimes means that the Christmas break is only 2 weeks or so, but I have found that college students like to be at college, rather than at home, after a shorter period than 2 weeks!

don't visit over winter break. that wouldn't give an accurate (good or bad) presentation of campus at all.

I visited in the summer and I kind of regret it....
