campus visit

Hey Candyman:

I am visiting campus with my parents in April for the info session and tour. We are really looking forward to our visit. What suggestions do you have as to how we can maximise our time on campus? We will be there on a Saturday. What cafeteria should we go to? Can we just wander into various dorms and ask someone if they would show us a room? Look forward to your suggestions. Thanks, Dana

Dana,

How does this sound:

If you want to get the most out of your time at Lafayette...

Attend the info session at 10am so that you get the credit for that.

I'll make sure you fall into MY tour group for the 11am tour which follows the 10am info session. You'll be one of many families, but you'll still learn a lot!

After the tour is over we can go for lunch in the Farinon College Center. The meal will be on me (I can get reimbursed from the college no problem!).

After getting a bite to eat, we can visit the parts of campus not included on the tour (like the Kirby Athletic Center, Williams Art Center, the insides of any/all residence hall options for freshman, etc.)

This all depends on how much time you and your parents have to spend at Lafayette. If you are planning on doing the "Lehigh Valley" run on Saturday, and Lafayette is just one stop out of many, maybe this idea isn't so hot. I already gave a personal tour to another CC'er, and she seemed to really get a lot out of the experience.

Which Saturday in April are we thinking? Let me know...

Candyman:

This is Dana's dad responding to your truly gracious offer. When she reads your note she will be very excited. We are driving up to Easton on Saturday April 22d. We will do the 10AM info session and the 11AM tour. That lunch offer sounds great as does the insider's tour. Will you be wearing a name tag saying Candyman or a red carnation? Perhaps we will sidle up to all the male tour guides and whisper"Candyman?" We look forward to meeting you.

We have found a number of students at other lacs that have been nice enough to offer Dana a warm welcome at their campus. There were two great girls at Amherst who have offered to host Dana next fall at an overnight. There is something special about the generousity of CC students and parents that makes this a unique resource and a place to make new friends. Dana's Dad

Dana's Dad, aka the "ole jaded attorney",

I am glad to see that you have a sense of humor! On that Saturday, I will most likely be wearing a maroon Lafayette College jacket and Lafayette baseball cap. However, you will not need to sidle up to all the male tour guides and whisper "Candyman"! You see, after the information session, you will go directly on the tour. I will have already introduced myself by that time, and you will have had no prior interactions with me, so there is no need to be whispering in everybody's ears ;)

Anyway, I hope Dana will be as excited as you say she'll be after hearing about my offer. I look forward to our meeting on Saturday, April 22...I'll be sure to mark my calendar.
