Would it be okay for me to just have a self-guided tour on campus?
I'm flying from Texas and the only day that I can go is 2/1, which is a Saturday but there are no guided tours so could I just check out the campus with me and my dad?

Sure, you can do that.

You will not learn as much as you would on an official admissions visit but you are free to do what ever you want.

If you sign up for campus visit and actually come, it may be considered as showing interest.

Interest is a good thing to show. So if you visit on a non official admissions visit aka a Saturday I would email your admissions rep to say something like

“Hi, I just wanted to let you know that this Saturday I visited campus. I had a great time walking around and seeing what the is offered at the university. Unfortunately I was unable to take an official tour or go to an information session as the admissions office was closed for the weekend. I will try and come back and visit again when the admissions office is open. Thank you.”

This will tell your admissions rep that you visited campus. It will also help to express your interest to the rep.

I’m doing an overnight visit on 2/13/2014. This is obviously after the application deadline. Will they see this when reviewing my application or is this too late? Obviously I’m going to visit regardless because NU is a top choice for me, but if my admissions rep sees that I’ve been to campus, logic would assume that that can only help my chances, right?

You can always send an email to your admissions officer that you will be visiting the campus on 02/13 . The sooner you send this email, the better it is. Good Luck!
