how is the chapman's campus? is there a lot of stuff to do on campus and is it necessary to have a car? also how far are the dorms from classes?

The dorms are right across the street (from left to right it goes Campus—> Football Field ----> Street -----> Dorms, however, they aren’t too far…just a minute or two from the actual campus. The campus itself is awesome in my opinion. Very small, takes about a minute or two to walk from one side to the other, everything feels very organized, and it’s BEAUTIFUL. I don’t think it would be necessary to have a car unless your planning on working/hanging out outside of Orange County. I personally will have my car there if I do end up going, because my family lives about 40 mins away, and is impractical to take the bus. There is a metro train station a minute or two from campus that can bring you…anywhere pretty much in So Cal (slight exaggeration…I think it goes from San Diego to North LA…I’v taken it from West LA/South Bay to Orange before, not a very long ride). It seems like there is a lot to do on campus- on the weekdays. The weekends are dead on campus (whenever i’ve been). The university likes to hold a lot of events though, which is nice.
Hope that helps!

Scott is right.
Car is totally unnecessary.
Everybody here is mad cool. So if you need to get anywhere…that isn’t in walking distance already… finding a ride is absolutely no problem.

You could throw a nickel outta your dorm room window and hit the library and main campus. Literally, 150 yards away from each other.

The campus is killer. It is super safe. Super maintained. Super clean. I saw a crew cleaning the sidewalk in the quad on my way home from class. LOL. Seriously.

Everybody knows or has seen everyone on campus by your second month here. Its a super small school. The President of the University, personally, took everyone who stayed on campus for Thanksgiving out to dinner and paid for it out of his own pocket.

If you want to go to college to party however this is NOT the school for you. Super square that way. If you want a school where an incredible amount of your professors not only hold doctorates but have heavily accoladed walls and are full of real world experience in whatever field you come here for, then this is your spot.

For the second time this decade one of the professors here was shortlisted for a Nobel prize. One in Econ. and another in Physics.

I digress, Film majors rejoice and be glad here. LOL.
Richard Donner, Richard Dreyfus, William Friedkin, Bryan Singer, Chan Wook Park, came to my Industry Insiders class this semester. And those events are open to the whole school. You would be hard pressed to find someone here who couldn’t carry on an intelligent conversation about film.

I love this place.
Namaste.

I disagree about the lack of parties on campus…as a freshman even, there are a lot of parties available to you if you branch out and meet older students, which is very very easy to do. Or if you are in a fraternity/sorority…but I am not involved in Greek Life at all and there are still plenty of social opportunities to be had.

Parties notwithstanding, this is an awesome school for education anyway. I have learned so much my first semester (I’m in film production), gotten opportunities to work on set for theses, met great friends, and generally had a wonderful time. I was always busy. I’m a commuter so I couldn’t tell you much about the car situation, it depends on how often you expect to shop for groceries, etc. You can always get a ride from friends though. Spectacular food and restaurants are walking distance away from campus in the Orange Circle.
