I got a B in AP Chemistry... (Sophomore.) I was supposed to take Honors first, but they let several top students in... Does it look good that I seemingly challenged myself?... Or, is it a negative? How bad is a B?

I think it’ll be fine

I’m in a similar situation:

Freshman year, I was enrolled in a special program where freshmen were allowed to take AP Biology (and continue up to AP Chemistry sophomore year).

I got a B in AP biology - with an easy 5 on the AP exam - but the teachers/guidance counselors said that colleges would rather have you score a B in a challenging class than an A in an easy one. Does this still apply? Our school’s been destroyed by admissions the past two years, and I think a lot of it has to do with GPA. My GPA’s been sitting at a 3.64 unweighted because I took 4 APs total my freshman and sophomore year. My ECs been good, I just worry that my GPA is the only thing that would remove me from chances at a top tiered school.
