Can a double science major improve my science gpa, and therefore increase my chances for med school?

Please advice, thanks

I don’t understand how a double science major would improve your GPA. Majoring in the science that you are strongest in seems more likely to improve your GPA.

I think that we need more information, since this doesn’t seem to make any sense to me.

Well my school doesn’t let me do a double major unless they are both in the science department. Since my science gpa is low and if i take more science classes in my school, can i increase my gpa for med school?

“Since my science gpa is low and if i take more science classes in my school, can i increase my gpa for med school”

So basically you are hoping that you will do better in future courses than you did in past courses.

I still think that we need more information. Why do you think that you are going to start doing better in future courses? Also, why do you need a double major in order to take more courses? Is the point to postpone graduation?

How bad is your GPA to this point? What university are you at?

So i currently go to UC Riverside, I’m going to finish my second year this month. I have a science gpa of a 2.3. I currently only took my gen chem, gen bio, and physics series. So i do still have time to raise my gpa

The plan was to go to a post bach./ or a masters program to raise my gpa for med school; however, but most of them want a 3.0 and I’m scared i won’t be able to raise my gpa by then.

I do work hard in school, but i have a feeling I’m not working hard enough and believe i can do better with some extra studying.

So it sounds like you have not yet taken the serious “weed out” courses such as premed organic chemistry. Medical school is going to be a lot more difficult than anything that you have seen up to now.

When you go to a hospital, there are a LOT of medical professionals there. Most of them are NOT doctors. There are in fact a very wide range of medical professionals with a correspondingly wide range of education. I am thinking that medical school might be rather tough for you to get into and that you should think about what other options exist.

At this point it sounds like it is early, but that you need to focus on one day and one week at a time. Do as well in your classes as you can. Keep ahead in your work. Do all of your homework, and do it as early as possible. If you can, do homework on the day that it is assigned. This will put you a bit ahead and help you pick up a bit more in your next class. Try to sit in the front row of classes. Keep track of what work you still need to get done.

Take things one day and one week at a time and see how much you can pull up your GPA.
