Can a high SAT/ACT score make up for a fairly low GPA?

Also, if your uw GPA is really 3.75 and your capped is really only 3.96, that indicates that you’ve hardly taken any Honors or AP classes, which will significantly decrease your chances of getting in. With that gap, from what I can calculate you’ve only taken 2 Honors/AP classes.

15*4 + 5 * 3 + 4 would be 15 A’s, 4 B’s with 4 semester weighting points and give a 3.96, so I agree.

@ProfessorPlum168 and @VickiSoCal these are my classes and grades for 10th and 11th grade:
10th grade:
Honors Physics-B/B
MYP Spanish 3-A/A
MYP Drama-A/A
Precalculus-B/A
Honors US History (UC APPROVED HONORS)-B/A
MYP English 5-A/A

Summer after 10th grade:
Health: A

11th grade:
IB Spanish 1(UC APPROVED HONORS)-A/A
IB English 1(UC APPROVED HONORS)-A/A
IB Math 2-B/B
IB Biology-B/B
IB Economics (UC APPROVED HONORS)-B/B
IB Chemistry-B/A

Summer after 11th grade:
American Government (fingers crossed, I predict an A)

^ so my UC w&c would be a 3.88 (which is much lower, I agree) but my school only lets me take my IB courses in 11th and 12th grade. I miscalculated by adding classes I should not add at first, my apologies.

At most schools, GPA is more important than ACT/SAT. To what degree varies from school to school, but on the CDS most of them assign more importance to GPA.

If a kid has high test scores relative to GPA, you can research to find out which schools admit kids with high test scores relative to GPA (and relative to other schools’ stats…).

Are there schools with an average admitted GPA of 3.7 and a 25/75 range of 31-35 ACT and 1400-1550 SAT? Probably – you just have to do a good deal of research to find them.

Much more important, in my opinion, is to find the schools that fit you best and are affordable without too much debt. Put that first. Then, if you want to find schools that are relatively high on test scores and low on GPA, apply that test to your list.

@prezbucky thank you, I’m more focused on the academics of the school rather than the debt, which is something I do not have to worry about for my undergrad.

11 x 3 + 15 x 4 = 93/26 = 3.58 unweighted

93 + 8 = 101/ 26 = 3.88 UC gpa

Taking more weighted classes would not help. You are at the max.
Getting more As would.

Yeah assuming you get that A this summer and not counting your Drama class, I came up with 3.52 for uw and 3.87 for UC capped. You’ll definitely want to formulate a list of safety schools, as the mid-tier UCs are going to be iffy.

@ProfessorPlum168 my drama class counts as a performing art, according to the UC website.
