I was just wondering if a transfer student (from a community college/ other 4-year) can transfer to a different college and graduate with academic honors.

I guess the underlying question is how the GPA is calculated once you transfer.

Thanks all!

Once you transfer, your GPA resets.

Some colleges take ALL previous college work into consideration for Latin Honors at graduation (cum laude, etc). SJSU is one such school. You have to read the fine print to figure out how your transfer school handles it.

new gpa after transfer but the school may calculate your previous gpa in, read their policy on their website to find out

Each institution defines its own policy about this. Some even have different categories for honors depending on the number of transfer credits you arrive with - for example you might need to be at that institution for four years to graduate “Summa Cum Laude”, but transfer students might still be eligible to graduate “With Honors”.
