Can ACT score go down from hand scoring?

Just wondering if anyone has used this service and how it has worked out? Can they lower your score if they find an error that goes against you?

Yes. It absolutely can.

THE RUB

Fees are refundable only if the test companies agree they made a mistake, and your score could go down — for example, if the scanner mistakenly registered an eraser mark as a correct answer. Results are final: none of that, “Wait a minute, I prefer the first score after all.”

Damnit. I already ordered hand-scoring.

@Hawkace‌
I’d not sweat it if I were you. I think it highly unlikely the score will change at all. Also, it seems far more likely that the computer would register a poorly erased choice as a fouled answer, (giving two answers on same question) than picking one up as correct. Don’t sweat it.

@CATDECAL‌ I just want to say that you’re wrong. I just talked to ACT and the score will only stay the same or go up. It will not go down. (Words of the ACT representative).

@hawkace Sweet! Happy to be wrong about that! Thanks so much for the update. Based on that I’ll probably request a hand score myself!

Just goes to show, never trust the New York Times!
