UCSC was not one of my top choices. I was looking forward to going to UCI, UCSB and other Universities before UCSC. Despite this, I am starting to take pride in that I am going to UCSC and although it is not a top tier UC, I feel proud about going here freshman year and do not plan on transferring anywhere else. (Unless there are drastic problems)

I've seen a few ppl on this board who are going to attend UCSC and are already planning on leaving and transferring. There is nothing wrong with this, but my question is:

I won't be surrounded by a numerous amount of ppl at UCSC who are all planning to transfer out, right?

It just would really help if most of my classmates had a positive attitude and are proud to attend UCSC. After all, it seems like a great school after doing some research.

Also, I have a question about classes...Is freshmen year usually easy?
I know a freshman from UCB talked to our class and he said his year has been so much easier compared to HS. This could be good because I don't want to be stressed my first year after all the work in HS. lol Any other info about classes would be nice too. :)

Freshman year is really easy because you are doing gen-ed requirements here. I used to be a current student and you can probably breeze by your gen-ed requirements if you’ve done anything like Honors, AP, or IB or another advanced core-level classses. Some people struggle ab it sbecause of the fewer grades (You on’t get as many grades here per term as you do in high school or in some other collages) but if you put maybe an hour or three an hour then you can cover your require dreading and be ready to make sure that oyu start your major / minor or your doble manjor within a matter of mormons.

I haven’t met anyone who is planning to transfer. A few people said they had planned to go to upper-tier UCs but didn’t get in, but they’ve all decided that they’re really happy here. :)

Freshman year is as easy as you make it. I’m doing mostly classes related to my major, and it’s tough but I’m surviving. It’s nice to only have to think about three classes, and spending way less time in class each day. Some of my friends are doing the gen ed route, and they’re having an easy time with it.

To tell you the truth, most of the people who go to UCSC saying that they will transfer actually end up staying at UCSC. You begin to fall in love with the university and leaving it is really difficult. I’m actually transferring out now (already accepted at a few places), but it took me a long time to make that decision. Mine was solely based on major, not because I didn’t like UCSC. You really don’t encounter that many people who want to transfer btw.

Freshman year can be easy depending on how fast you can adapt to college academics AND depending on what types of courses you are taking. I had straight A’s freshman year (other than in 2 courses) and I still managed to take 3 upper divs. However, this might be REALLY difficult if you were a math major or an engineer. So your major plays a big role in this as well.
