Can anyone give me some advise on teachers

For the question "Which Penn professor would you like to study with and why?" I'm having trouble.
My major is biochemistry and I want to become a microbiologist. I looked at their microbiology department website and at the faculty page but I don't know enough about the professors to say anything.
Here's the page:
UPENN SOM :: MICROBIOLOGY :: FACULTY

Do any current Penn students have suggestions?

The point is that you are supposed to research the professors' areas of research so that you can learn enough to say something. Also, the the major curriculum for biochemistry might not be what you are looking for if you are interested in microbiology. The biochemistry major does not require one biology course. Its focus is mainly structural and mechanistic which is not the same as for biochemistry courses in the biology department.

Thanks for the advise. I looked further into what the required courses are for those majors and you are right, biology is a better path for microbiology.

I chose Mark Goulian by the way. (because of his papers on bacteria found in ticks in Pennsylvania)

I have the same problem. I'm considering majoring in Communication or Theatre Arts... I have no clue about what teacher to write about.. and trust me, I've researched their website a lot..

i need help "puppy eyes"

if you're doing comm, write about professor jamieson - she's amazing.

Use Google Scholar.

Look up their names.

Read their papers.

It's Penn -- some of their professors are very famous. Take for example, William Labov, of the linguistics department, who practically set the entire foundation for sociolinguistics ...

(You know you've hit a particularly good professor if you look her up and suddenly Google Scholar gives a "definition" for her.)

is there anyone for chemistry to recommend...? ahh this is quite hard =/

That is what the "Research" link of the department website is for.

If you're not interested in research (the prompt does have an "or"), look at ratemyprofessors.com to try to get an idea of a professor's strengths.
