hello...
I'm an international student and i have a problem contacting my EC. His phone seems to be turned off or something...I tried e-mailing MIT several times and got no response...
the thing is..i really really want to have an interview (my scores aren't that great, and an interview might help me)...so what should i do? Is it possible that MIT assign another EC for me? Thanks

MIT can assign another EC to you if there is another one in your area, I had the same problem with my interviewer's phone not working. Call MIT, they will connect you to the EC office and the guy there will find another interviewer for you. Good luck!

if there's no one in the area..i'm screwed right? Hope there's more than one alumni in thailand...

Hey Rispat,

Sorry for the delay; just got back from fall recruitment travel.

Write to interview@mit.edu and see what they can do. Hopefully they'll be able to find someone else for you.

Hey Ben,

I was wondering how long it usually takes for somebody to check the email for interviews, I sent an email this morning, and still have not gotten a response. I was wondering if MIT email accounts properly accept @gmail accounts, since both the interview and my interviewer have not responded.

Booboise: You may want to use the phone instead of the e-mail to schedule an interview, if that's the case. You can warn them there to be on the lookout for any e-mail filtering.

As for me, my interviewer responded to my e-mail within minutes (literally). Stu Schmill is the guy who takes care of inverview@mit.edu, if I recall correctly, and I'd imagine he'd check it at least once a day (likely when he clocks into the office?).

Well, I emailed my EC 2 Sundays ago, and then left him a message on the answering machine on Monday, which is why I'm getting a little worried. If anything, I'll try calling the MIT office tomorrow.

Wow, yeah, then definitely try to get in contact with Mr. Schmill. There's an EC out there who needs a scolding. :)

I can't really imagine a reason for the delay, but the email thing would explain it.

Are you an international?

Luckily, no :D Since the topic is similar, I thought it was pointless to make a new thread.

Hehe, well, I wouldn't worry too much. If you live in a populated-enough city, chances are there's more than one EC. I know here we have three.

Heh. I was surprised mine wasn't someone in Chicago, since my town is just south of Chicago, so I'm not too worried.

Haha, yeah, definitely. I'll be surprised if there isn't more than one in that area.

As for me, a lot of kids apply to MIT from my region, which is why I had my appointment more than a month ago (I got in first to make sure I didn't get into a time crunch). My EC told me that in mid-November he'd have to do 2 or 3 interviews a day, and thanked me for getting set up so early.

I guess the moral of the story is: get your interviews done as early as possible. MIT interviews are about personality more than classes or statistics or anything, and that's not something that's going to change between whenever you interview and the deadline. There's no reason not to do it early. If anything, it's being courteous to your EC.

I'm guessing a fair number of kids from the Chicagoland area apply, I doubt many (if any) from my area, so we'll see. There's still three weeks, so hopefully my interview won't be rushed.

interview@mit.edu should be pretty quick to respond, but if you don't hear anything within a couple of days, definitely call!
