Can anyone order these schools in order of prestige?

University of Virginia
University of North Carolina
University of Georgia
Wake Forest University
Washington University in St. Louis
The College of New Jersey
Bucknell
Lehigh
Emory
UCSB (University of California at Santa Barbara)
Vanderbilt
UCLA

Thanks so much

Washington University in St. Louis

Nope. No one can.
People may try, but in comparing most colleges, “prestige” is a squishy, slippery thing. It will be like trying to nail jello to the wall. Try to find a more solid basis for comparison.

If you have no clear sense of what is important to you personally (location, size, etc.) just go with the US News rankings. onecircuit’s seems to follow it more or less, if I recall correctly.

Washington University
Emory
UVA
UCLA
UNC
Vanderbilt
Wake Forest
University of Georgia
UCSB
Not sure about the rest.

Anything in particular that you are wanting to study?

If “prestige” is indicated by the tendency of a new acquaintance to say “oh, wow” when you tell them where you go to college, then UVA, UCLA and Vandy would be “prestigious.” Wash U may be depending upon how college-savvy the other person is; the average person on the street probably wouldn’t be aware of it. Schools like Emory, Wake, Bucknell and UNC are great universities, but I wouldn’t anticipate the “oh, wow” response.

ok thank you I would have thought that UNC would get the “oh wow” response too. its nearly impossible for OOS people to get in. I want to study something science or math related, possibly medicine, but i’m not sure yet.

What region you are in may make a difference. For example, people in North Carolina may not know anything (good or bad) about University of California campuses other than Berkeley and Los Angeles, while people in California may not know anything (good or bad) about University of North Carolina campuses other than Chapel Hill.

In general I agree with this:
Washington University in St. Louis
Vanderbilt
Emory
UCLA
University of Virginia
University of North Carolina
Lehigh
Wake Forest University
UCSB (University of California at Santa Barbara)
Bucknell
The College of New Jersey
University of Georgia

It will definitely vary depending on the region of the country you decide to reside. If I had to rank them, though, I’d probably say:

WUST
Vandy/UVa
Emory/UCLA
UNC
Wake
Lehigh
UCSB
Bucknell
The College of NJ
University of Georgia
