i know there was a similar thread to this, but I want to see how people would rank the universities I am interested in.

I know prestige of a college isn't all that matters but I am just wondering what everyone thinks.

**If you couldn't tell by the responses given on this thread,
it isn't conclusive. And you knew that before you made it.
This thread fails. You're not even asking for specific aspects,
just "prestige." What a joke. You don't even list why you're
asking. Seriously...come on now. You're better than this.

Ranked by prestige of the football program

Epic fail for putting ND at the top these days!
(And Bucknell/Colgate should be placed ahead of Bowdoin & Dartmouth, with the latter ranking as the dregs of the Ivy League the past few years)

Prestige of the football program is independent of the current team's success, Michigan has a very prestigious program but currently is a joke, I would say that ND is traditionally more of a powerhouse than PSU.

There's always some latent Marxist on these boards railing any time someone asks a "prestige" question. But it's a perfectly reasonable question. Deciding to sell your soul for prestige might be more sketchy, but wanting to know about brand-name cachet is quite normal. Slipper, above, looks about right. I'd have Dartmouth, then Brown, then Penn, because Penn is often confused with Penn State, and Brown is an adjective (as in "you mean a brown what?"). Dartmouth is just Dartmouth, even though UMass has a branch that rips off the name (most normal people - not us college geeks on CC - have never heard of UMass-Dartmouth).

I'm shocked at how many of you would rank Dartmouth as most prestigious but still call it Dartmouth University...

Probably b/c we were all copying and pasting from the original list, which is where the error originated. I didn't even bother proofing, just dragged & dropped to reorder the names.
