I need to know if it needs improvement. I'm not sure if it's good enough. Thank you!

Topic 1: What qualities or unique characteristics do you possess that would allow you to contribute to the UCF community?

I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. This is a quote by Thomas Jefferson. It is a quote which I believe to be ultimately true. The farther I travel down this road called life, the more I understand that things dont come easily. Even through these college applications I realize that life is a competition. It is a competition amongst all people a competition that is different for every single living individual. More often than not, those who can dub themselves as hard-workers are the ones who succeed in the long run. I have made it a habit in my life to push myself out of my comfort zone.

Working hard is a quality that many students my age possess but, Im not like the other students. I am a dedicated swimmer with 12-years of experience carried on my shoulders and a realistic painter who has a passion for expressing ones self through colors, imagination, and a canvas.

Because I have explored two extremes, the field of art and athletics, I consider myself a well-rounded individual when I also take into consideration my knowledge of three languages: English, Spanish, and French, my role as secretary in my high schools student government, and my exposure to different cultures. From the salsa-dancing Cuban lifestyle to the country living in Tennessee, Ive taken a little piece of every place with me.

Being captain of the swim team my senior of high school, I learned how to take on responsibilities around the pool deck and how to work with large groups of people. My swimming experience gives me many opportunities to get involved with the community at UCF. As an undergraduate living away from home, a part-time job is a necessity. With a life-guard certification I will be able to work at any local pools and teach people of all ages how to swim. In the United States, drowning is the second leading cause of death in children under 12 years. By becoming a lifeguard, I can help protect young children and people of all ages as well from a fatal accident in a pool, beach, etc.

Throughout high school I enrolled in many art classes. It was sophomore year that I realized that I had a talent for art. I joined the Art Club and became actively involved with the club. During senior year, my efforts were rewarded as I was named President of the Art Club.

I plan to major in Architecture at UCF. But my infatuation with the field of art will not be settled with the courses I am required to take within this major. I plan to be affiliated with a club called Arts Alliances. I want to help this club flourish and become more active around UCF.

My desire to be a leader and break boundaries will help me make a name for myself at UCF. I am extremely enthusiastic about applying to the School of Visual Arts and Design and it is my dream to see myself walking the grounds of UCF next fall.
