Went to freshman orientation this week. Registered for HIST-H101. Discussion section my son signed up for is at 8am Thursday. Currently he is the only one registered for that section. I am afraid IU might potentially cancel this discussion section if not enough students sign up. Also, there are two 8am sections -- each with one person registered currently. How does IU handle this and when would they notify him if it gets cancelled? Any suggestions on how to handle? What is the minimum number of students that need to register for a 19 person class in order for it not to get cancelled?

Remember their are a lot of freshman that still have to register. My guess is that they will email you. I signed up for a class at orientation and the next day they sent me an email saying that the section was for a specific major and I might want to switch sections.

Don’t worry, it’ll fill up. Only classes that tend to have 20 seats TOTAL (not HIST101 which probably has over 150) and have fewer than say, 15 kids, will get cancelled

Also, your kid MAY want to reconsider an 8 am discussion section, as those are probably the easiest things to skip and if attendance is required, he’ll regret having something that early–especially if he’s interested in rushing.
