Can EC's make up for bad grades?

<p>Can EC's make up for bad grades? And vice versa. I'm from a small regular normal town. There aren't too many EC's that I can do or really have the oppurtunity to join so will my grades be able to make up for that. </p>

<p>And what if someone had awesome Ec's and bad grades. Then will those balance each other out? Thanks</p>

<p>IF by ECs you mean AIME, USAMO,INTEL Winner........yes they could do some making up I suppose. But in general I'd say low grades are not easy to make up for.</p>

<p>Yes, if you can kick a 90 yard field goal, many schools will forgive you for bad grades. Or if you got an Oscar, Pulitzer, Nobel Prize (any category) or Emmy for your efforts.</p>

<p>No, being King or Queen of the School, Editor of the School Newspaper, Captain of the Debate team will not make up for a low GPA.</p>

<p>EC's are tie breakers..colleges only want to accept students that will be able to graduate eventually and GPA is the best indicator.</p>

<p>Possible exceptions if the school is really looking for a french horn player for their marching band....study and get good grades.</p>
