Can high AP scores off set low SAT II scores?

Or vice versa? Like would a 5 on the Chem exam make up for like lets say...a 650 on the SAT II Chem exam?

idk but if one did so well on the AP exam, one would do very well on the SAT II. Getting a 5 on AP Chem means you probably could get 700+ easily

I don’t think they offset. Colleges require official score reports for SAT I and (for those that require them) SAT II scores. At every college I’m aware of, AP scores are self-reported; the school doesn’t ask for an official score report as part of the admissions process. And the Common Data Set doesn’t even list AP scores as a consideration in admissions; it only inquires about AP tests in the context of which tests colleges will consider for advanced placement. This all suggests colleges are not looking at the AP scores closely as a consideration in admissions. And indeed, the purpose of AP tests is not and never has been college admissions; these tests are for placement purposes after you’re enrolled. Colleges do care about how many AP classes you take in HS and your grades in those classes, but the AP test score itself is going to be at most a tiny factor, if any at all, in college admissions. So no, a 5 AP score is not going to offset a 650 SAT Subject Test on the same subject.

Not necessarily, the curve on the AP Chem Test is pretty ridiculous. You could get 60%ish correct and receive a 5. If you got 60ish % right on SAT II’s that would equate to less than a 600…

^but the AP test is a lot harder than the SAT II test. I would say that it depends on when you took the SAT II Chem test. If you took it before you took AP Chem and after you took AP Chem, and it seems like you’ve improve a lot, then maybe they will consider the fact that you are a good learner and the reason for a low Chem score was because you had not learned everything yet in Chem.

this is not really related but does it work the other way around? Like if you get a really high score on your sat IIs but crappy AP scores?

My problem is the other way around. I did good on my SAT II but I know i did horrible on my AP because i didnt even have time to finish and ended up writing on the wrong topic by accident.
