Can Human Development Majors Take Other Classes?

I was just accepted to Binghamton a few days ago. I applied to Harpur but was contacted by admissions and asked if I would switch to the College of Community and Public Affairs, which was the only place they said I would be admitted. I accepted, just as a way in to the school, but am not completely sure of what the major, Human Development, entails.

The course list seems very heavy on psychology, which I am most certainly not interested in. However, most courses seem to be only offered to juniors and seniors, so I was wondering what it was like for freshman and sophomores. Is it mostly electives and introductory courses? Can you decide to take other classes outside the major at Harpur college? Is it easy to intratransfer at Binghamton?

Thanks.

well I’m actually in the same position as you. I have a friend who goes to Binghamton and as far as I know freshmen basically only take general education classes, and as long as your GPA is up and you take classes in the requirements for the major you want to transfer to, inter-university transfers are not difficult.

My son had the same thing happen, but when I looked at the BU online it said he is admitted to Harpur. I am confused. Has this hapened to anyone else?

in the status checker it says that?

Human development may also require a variety of courses in biological sciences, statistics, research methods, as well as any electives you choose. You may focus on the biological aspect of development, or the social aspect, or focus on a particular period (childhood, adolescence, adulthood, elderly), although you would still need a basic foundation in nearly all of it. This can lead to careers in counseling, clinical work, human resources, education, marketing, and a variety of other fields, although for many jobs additional education (certifications, masters degrees, etc.) will often be required to earn a decent salary.

If you are not interested in human development, what are you interested in? You could always just focus on general education requirements and try to change your major later if you don’t think HD is for you.

sophiesrsly yes in the status checker yesterday it said accepted to Harpur we had never checked but we got an email from the school saying he was declined but he could try for College of Community and Public Affairs. We decided to say yes after I spoke with a woman in admissions but my son needed to send an email to confirm. Last night he sent it but I logged in to the status checker and it said accepted to Harpur, but when I look at it today ot says admitted into CCPA. Going to call admissions tomorrow.
