Can I add/drop classes on Wolverine Access myself?!?

So i want to add a class and emailed my advisor. It is taking my advisor quite awhile to reply back. Since an advisor does not actually submit class choices like a high school counselor, could I add/drop classes on my own at home without notifying my advisor? I am only saying this because the more time that goes away the greater the chance that the class I want will close.

yes, you can do that by yourself without notifying an advisor

Variation on the OP:

I am enrolled in a lecture class with several lab options. I would like to switch the lab section I am in, but I do not want to lose my spot in the leture, which is now full (there is another section open, but I do want want that instructor).

Is there a way to just drop the lab, without dropping the lecture, and enroll in another lab section? Can I do this myself on Wolverine Access?

In theory, this will work with the swap option. You have to drop both the lab and lecture, and then replace it with your new lab and the same lecture. Using swap instead of add/drop should make it instantaneous.

But Wolverine Access is a terrible program, so I wouldn’t bet on it working (something similar totally backfired on me in the past).

as long as you add the lecture/lab right after dropping it there should be no problem. if you’re really concerned that someone will steal your spot in that window of a few seconds then do it later at night instead of during the day.

When i try and do it…it says I need departmental approval. I had my orientation couple weeks ago, and I’m wondering has anyone successfully switched classes on their own?

I have changed my whole schedule since I went to orientation a few weeks ago. I didn’t have any problems, ( ^ I never got that message) but should I e-mail my advisor about the drastic change? It’s still a regular freshman schedule, just slightly different subjects.

emzee, what course are you trying to get into?

volleyballplayer, there’s no need to e-mail your adviser unless you have concerns about something

I was just able to add a seminar without any problems.

Engr 101, although I tried today and it seems to be working for now.
