Due to unfortunate circumstances (bad luck, if you believe in it) I haven't been able to get any SAT scores so I have to take them in Oct and Nov for SAT I and II, respectively. I didn't plan on applying EA or ED anywhere, until my counselor strongly encouraged me to do EA for umich. It lists SAT IIs as optional, but would it really hurt my chances without those scores? I'm sure my SAT I score will get there in time, but other than that I'm a pretty mediocre student (3.6UW, some clubs and volunteer) and I've only had 1 AP score (4 on human geo) although I'm taking 4 APs this year.

So: should I try EA without SAT II scores? If I'm rejected from EA, can I resubmit my application with SAT IIs (and since I'm taking the SAT I again in Dec, I'd submit that too if it's higher) for reconsideration?

I wouldn’t waste time or money on SAT II unless you need it for somewhere other than U-M. The SAT is not required and I doubt you would be helped by it even if you did well. In any event you probably will be a reach for U-M. If you apply I would apply EA. You will most likely be deferred. If you are rejected then an 800 SAT II wouldn’t have changed their mind. In any event, I’m not sure what back has to play with not having a SAT score at this point in the process.

res ipsa, please don’t judge me exp when you have no idea what my circumstances are. it’s not like I planned to go to the ER on the day of my makeup exam, after having my SAT scores cancelled because of an error at my testing site. I’ve gotten enough **** about it already despite it being out of my control
