I was wondering if I could still apply for FASFA if my mother was an illegal immigrant? Also can I put her as the parent that I am dependent on. My parents are married but filing taxes separately.
Also She does pay her taxes

If you are a green card holder or a citizen, yes. If you live with her the most then put her as the parent. Do your parents live apart?
You mentioned in your previous thread that you listed ONLY your step-dad on last year’s FAFSA. If you are living with your mom for more of the year than not prior to filing the FAFSA, and she is in fact re-married to your step-dad…you need to list BOTH parents on your FAFSA.
I listed both of my Parents Taxes after looking back at the 2014-2015 FAFSA Form however this year they decided to file it separately for reasons.
Married filing separately is simply a tax filing status. As long as both your parents are listed on the FAFSA that is fine.
If your parents file “married filing separately” they will not be able to take the AOTC. just fyi.
