Can I ask Stony Brook for financial aid?

So I'm basically torn between attending Stony Brook or University at Buffalo. I leaning towards Stony Brook, however total cost is a little pricey (at least for my financial circumstances) and they didn't give me any extra aid (word study, scholarships, etc). However, UB has almost the same cost compared to SBU, but they gave me a 4 year $2,500 scholarship (which isn't much, but helps...) If I were to ask SBU for more aid, how will I go about doing it?

$2,500 or $10,000?

It’s $2,500 for four years, so it’s $10,000 in total.

Our experience was similar. Son applied to a total of 4 SUNYs and UB was the only one that gave up substantial aid. Appealing your aid package is always an option. I just wouldn’t expect to be able to use the UB package as “leverage”…seeing as SB is generally viewed as a more sought after admission in the SUNY universe. We were pretty surprised by how much $$ UB gave compared to the other SUNYs. I guess we thought that there was some sort of formula that all SUNYs had to follow. Speaking with son’s advisor, she told us that UB is often more generous - probably as means to entice kids from downstate who might hesitate because of the distance and weather. Good luck!!
