Hello, i am a undergrad in University of Texas at Arlington. I am currently in the Mechanical Engineering program and i wish to be a petroleum engineer. I have heard that mech engineers can do petroleum too; but i think you have to have internships first. I couldn't go to UT or A&M because im staying home. There are no petroleum companies in dallas (that offer internships). So i was wondering if it is still possible for me to get a petroleum engineer job as a MechE with no oil experience?

I have heard of it being done. It will probably be easier to get into the downstream work than upstream though. That’s just from what I have read.
