I took the new SAT in June and scored a respectable but mediocre 1460(730+730). I have close to two months since I’m retaking it on the 1st of October. Can I push the score beyond the 1500 barrier? I used the Khan-Academy resources to prep when I first took the test and I didn’t really work hard. What are some strategies that will help beef up my score? Thank you! Any additional resources provided will be greatly appreciated.
Sure! Go for it!
This is a reasonable, attainable goal for improvement, especially if your first score came without a lot of prep.
Use the four official practice tests (and any other official tests that come to be released in the next weeks, we hope). Go over them until you can explain every question to someone else. On the math side, look for multiple ways to answer the same question. That will give you increased flexibility on test day.
Also, though you should not have to let this take over your life, try to do a little bit nearly every day. Two months can go by faster than you think it will.
Good Luck!
Your current score is not mediocre. Agree that focused prepping/studying is a good plan, but also agree- don’t obsess!
Often, at the level you are currently at, improvement is as much about time management and familiarity with the test structure as it is about study. Think about your performance on the first test: Did you have time to answer every question? Was there any section where you felt rushed, even if you did answer every question? Did you spend too much time on easy questions and too little on the harder ones?
Think about how you will strategize your approach to any section where you think you need better time management. Simply improving how you approach the test (e.g. In the math section I will do a quick first pass, then return afterward for a more detailed review of questions I’m not sure about) can provide a noticeable score boost.
