Can I cancel my F-1 visa?

Hi,

I am a UK student and I have received my IB results 3 days ago. This means my conditional offer to a UK university has become unconditional and therefore I have been accepted.

The problem is that I had also “committed” to a US college but would like to withdraw myself as a student. I already have an F-1 visa to study in the US but would like to cancel it. I have never travelled or studied in the US using the visa but I did it as a precaution.

How do I go about rejecting my offer even after accepting it and revoking my visa?

If you don’t intend to travel to the US then you don’t need to do anything about the visa. You can just let it expire unused.

However you shouldn’t travel to the US using it. If you do want to visit the US (once COVID is over) then you will need either a regular B-2 visa or an ESTA for the Visa Waiver Program. The immigration officer will then likely ask you about the F-1 and stamp it cancelled at the desk.

That’s all separate from withdrawing from your US course which you do with the college concerned.

Ok thank you for the clarification with the visa.
