Can I email and check on my status?

I really appreciate the colleges I've applied to that have students create an account so they can easily see what materials have been received, but not all of my schools do that. The others say that they will periodically send me emails on what they do and don't have, or that they will send me an email soon before the deadline. I sent in all of my stuff weeks ago and it would just give me peace of mind to know that it all got there safely. I would rather know about a transcript lost in the mail now than wait until they email me later. Is it okay to send the admissions office an email inquiring as to what has been received?

You can relax a bit about this. If you think you’ve done everything right, you probably have. It’s fine to send one inquiry like this, but don’t expect a quick response. It is a busy season and most schools have not downloaded or reviewed apps yet. You might get a generic reply something to the effect that “no news is good news from us”. If something is missing, schools will alert you and give you time (several days) to provide the missing material.

Okay. Thanks!
