How long to wait before contacting Admissions Office regarding status?

Some of my schools have their own application status portals online and haven't marked as having received my transcript or test scores, which were sent in October and mid-December, respectively. How long should I wait before contacting admissions about this? I'm sure they're super busy trying to match up everything right now, but I don't know if I should contact them asap or wait some more (since I sent half my stuff in a few months ago).

How about the end of January? Or end of March?

You’re posting this on 03-Jan? Really?

C’mon. It’s not as if they don’t process thousands of docs every year. If anything is missing, they will contact you or your school. Relax.

Well, they can’t start evaluations until they’ve got everything. While I know they’re supposed to contact people if anything’s missing, I’d just rather have everything in asap so it’s easier for them and for me - that’s why I was asking.

To clarify, by “status,” I don’t mean my decision. I mean whether or not they have all my stuff.

It’s going to take weeks for them to process all the pieces of the file.

They WILL let you know if anything is missing. You will either receive an email, letter or postcard.

Just be patient. You may have months before you get a decision.

For those items sent a few weeks ago, I would say give it another week. BUT, if something was sent in October, and the portal states it wasn’t received, I would definitely email them.

Added: You said that half was sent on Oct, the rest in Dec. At first I understood this to mean half the schools were done in Oct, however, I now realize you most likely sent each school some info first, and the rest of your materials later. Your status will not be ‘complete’ until it is all together. So, if the website specifically says you are missing a certain document that you sent back in Oct… then I’d certainly email/call.

When my S applied to some schools that had early action deadlines of 11/15, he didn’t see completed status updates for 2-3 weeks on the websites where he could track application status. In addition, our HS school only sends transcripts and counselor reports out in batches, especially when more than one student is applying. They send them out 1 week before the deadline, so they are postmarked early, but the mail then has to be sorted and organized through the admissions admins, and at major deadlines this can be very busy. Because of this, transcripts didn’t show as received until another week or two after the school sent it.

If you’ve just submitted an application, even though your school may have sent stuff out in October, wait 3-4 weeks before bugging the college admins, as they have some major sorting to do.
