Can I Even Get Into College...?

Hey, I'm currently a junior at a very competitive high school in CT (ranked in the top 10 for the state). I'm pretty convinced that I can't even get into college haha. Ok, here goes:

Basic Info:
Female-African-American

Grades :/

Freshman year + first semester of sophmore year = a GPA of...2.4 This is probably the worst GPA I have ever seen in my life. Yes. I have gotten some D's :( I wish I had a good explanation, but I don't, i was just a lazy bum. Moving on... (Total of 6 classes/credits that are counted in GPA)

Second semester of sophmore year: I decided to actually try. Who knew doing your homework would get you a better grade...4.0 for this semester!!!! :) (Total of 5.5 classes/credits that are counted in GPA)

First semester of junior year: all a's
So far, in second semester, I have all a's, hopefully I can continue. (Total of 6 classes/credits that are counted in GPA)

My Classes:
All Honors and AP since freshman year (except classes that aren't offered at the honors level). I've taken/am taking AP: Euro, Econ, US, Calc AB. Senior year I will be taking AP: English, Psych, Spanish, Physics, Stat, and Government.

Test Scores:
AP Exams:
-Euro 4
-Calc AB 5
SAT II:
-Bio 760

I haven't taken the SAT's yet, practice have been around 2100.

Extracurriculars: Only 1 however I am VERY passionate about it.
I am a nationally ranked tennis player, will most likely get recruited by some school (hopefully) haha. Tennis is my life, I play over 15 hours a week.

So...any ideas of a school I could actually get into? Any feedback is welcome! :)

Also, I'm really curious about my GPA at the moment, and what it would be if I continued to get straight a's. Thanks!

What schools are you considering? If you’re worried about the first semester of Freshman year, don’t be. That will weigh the LEAST when colleges look at your transcript, and if you can do this well senior year as well, you’ll have no issue. If you get at least a 2100 on the SAT, and maybe take the SAT and a few other SAT II’s, you’ll be competitive for a lot fo good schools. You also need a few more EC’s (clubs, etc.) and a few leadership positions, you’re good. Good luck :)

Chance me?

Can you get into college? Well there is always UConn or a community college.

So, there you go.

Start researching schools you’re interested in now! Your national ranking in Tennis is a “hook” that could provide collegiate scholarship options. Take the SAT and ACT, and send those scores to Coaches as soon as you receive your results. Fill out the individual Athletic Questionnaires (found on each School’s athletic website). The Questionnaires present an opportunity for you to post your stats and academic profile. You’ll begin to attract attention from interested Coaches who will monitor your academic progress. Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center in the immediate near future.

Much success to you !

Wait you’re actually worried about getting in somewhere? Posh.

The beauty of being in the United States is the ample opportunity for education, for everyone who seeks it. Regardless of financial, racial, social whatever other factors you can think of, if you want to get yourself an education, you are more than able to get one.

As for grades, the main thing that colleges want to see is a steady improvement over the years. Honestly, I’ve heard Freshman year going both ways, either it’s really good for some people, or really crappy. Either way, everyone gets in somewhere eventually. So don’t even worry about that. And if you don’t(which I highly doubt), you could take a gap year to do something really enriching with your life and it will give you a cool new perspective to take with you into an interview.

Being a really competitive tennis player will definitely help you-so make sure to pump that up, start talking to coaches at different universities. That should help you significantly.

Good luck with the process-I know it’s nerve racking but it will all work out for you :)

Do you see the college football players at Florida State? Did they realllllly have 4.0’s in high school?

Hmmm? This is just a poor attempt to get attention on your chances thread…

Someone else on this forum might as well sell their bodies so that they get a chance in return. In fact maybe I’ll do that

You’re definitely going to get in somewhere xD Don’t even trip, potato chip.

Chance, please?
