I'm a junior right now but I am starting to get a bit scared about getting into college. My grades all through freshman year and the first semester of sophomore year were really bad. I was just wondering if I can even get into a decent college, or have I completely screwed up my life?

Senior Year I am going to be taking AP English, AP Psychology, AP Physics, AP Spanish, AP Statistics, and AP Economics.

I'm not in many clubs because I don't have time. I play tennis 6 days a week and am ranked in the top 50 nationally. I do do some volunteer work though (about 3 hours a week in a hospital).

So, do I have a chance of getting into a decent college, or should I just give up now because of my terrible grades? Opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

You definatly have the ability to get into a good college. I know a kid that goes to Duke that did terribly his first and second years of high school, but pulled it together junior and senior year. Freshman and Sophomore year do not weigh that heavily. Good luck.

Don’t give up. You can get into some very good colleges. Keep working hard so that your grades continue to show the upward trend. Colleges are much more interested in the later years of high school. You have excellent test scores, which will help a lot. Are you interested in playing tennis in college? That could help also, but just having a serious EC where you have excelled will help. Good luck.

your poor grades freshman and sophomore years probably take you out of the running for the most selective schools unless you have a great excuse. however, schools don’t count your freshman and sophomore scores nearly as much as junior and senior year, so your improvement will help you out a lot at most colleges. don’t worry- you can still end up somewhere great :)

Who cares about her grades? If you’re in the top 50 tennis players in the country you will probably be recruited by a few schools. Compare your athletic scholarships and decided on it that way. The APs and nice grades you’ve earned your junior year are just added perks.

What Julia said. If you’re an athletic recruit, you’re golden, especially with a 2300 SAT.

Otherwise, your SAT score alone makes you stand a good shot at a lot of big state universities. If you can pull off a 4.0 this semester again, it’ll just make you look even better. You should have applied already anyways, so just keep working at it and hopefully good news comes your way.

If you are really top 50 in the nation in tennis then you must be getting getting recruited for tennis, if you are not, then something is wrong. Do you want to play in college? If you do and are really as good as you say you are, prepare a letter or e-mail explaining your situation to the coach of every school you are interested in. If you do not know, you can find contact info for coaches on the athletic website for each college. I have done this, if you need any assistance, PM me and I will be glad to help.
