According to my FWS award for American University, I could only earn 900$ per semester which is certainly not enough. Is there a possibility I could work to earn more?
I used to be a Federal Work-Study worker for several jobs at AU.
If you can only earn $900 per semester, assuming you work $10 per hour and for 18 weeks, you’d only work 5 hours per week. That does sound like a really bad gig. I would speak to your employer about how you would continue to get paid if you exceed your FWS funds.
From my experience – for most FWS jobs, you likely won’t be able to exceed your award limit because your employer will have to find another way to pay you outside of FWS funds and most departments at AU haven’t budgeted for that. When I used to work at the international student’s office (ISSS) they found alternate funding because I exceeded my FWS hours but only after a few weeks of bureaucratic back and forth.
Another option is to look at non-FWS jobs! Good luck.
