Can I finish my undergrad in pre-med at Rice in three years?

I have completed 15 AP classes with mostly 5's and some 4's. This translates over 70 college credits. Most of the schools let you graduate in two years with 15 AP classes. I would rather do it in three years. This will save me some money. I strongly believe that all my hard work at HS is partially credited at University. Let me know what you all think.

pre-med is not a major. It is a group of some 6-8 classes. You can major in Biology and do premed and graduate in 3 years.

I know people who have graduated with double majors in three years. It is very possible and feasible.

Thanks for the info Antarius. I know pre-med is not a major. I got accepted to Biomed Eng at Rice. Is it feasible to wrap Biomed in 3 years? I am serious about getting my MD after I am done with BS degree.

Yes. especially since it looks like you can test out of a lot of the into classes. 3 years will not be a cakewalk but it is definitely feasible. A few students in each class do this.

Antarius, what are you majoring in? Are you a freshman? Did you have other options while choosing Rice over other great schools?

I graduated in May of 2010 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. I had some good choices but selected Rice because they gave me a ton of money

I’m actually going to argue against trying to fit a BIOE degree into three years. I know one girl who has done it, but I came in with 14 5’s and would struggle to do so. The bioengineering department has a rather rigid schedule that’s difficult to switch around - here’s the link to the typical degree path: [Degree Requirements : Rice University Department of Bioengineering](http://bioengineering.rice.edu/undergrad/degree_requirements.aspx)

Feel free to ask me any questions :)

i also want to finish my undergrad for pre-med in 3 years, but i only have 8 AP credits…
then again, i’m majoring in humanities, which requires less credit hours, so i’m hoping that if i stay one summer to take summer classes, it’ll be manageable… what do you guys think? i appreciate it! <3

Can you put together a good med. school application package if you graduate in 3 years? Will you have enough research, volunteer work, etc. to make you an attractive candidate. Do your professors know you well enough to write you a strong LOR? All these and may be more are things to consider if you graduate early.

alleluia - You still need 120 credits to graduate from Rice. If your humanities major is smaller (say 60 credits) you still have 60 - 8 AP = 52 credits to complete in something to graduate.
