@happymomof1 SAT II doesn’t and can’t replace credits. Only AP or CLEP test can.
I can’t speak for all schools, but in my experience, even if you take 4 years of foreign language and took AP test, you still can’t get into major/minor language classes. Only a high score in a language placement test can put you in even higher classes.
Actually, the AP test results in higher placement in the foreign language. Each University decides on retroactive credit. You have to check University by University. Some require a placement test and those typically respect the placement and provide retroactive credit.
The SAT subject in a foreign language has this peculiarity that it does grant placement and credit at many universities (in some cases retroactive credit only IE., you place into Spanish3 thanks to your score but you only get credit for 1&2 if you actually take 3; in some cases wholesale.)
