I am a high school student that is going to take summer classes this year at a local community college. I was wondering if I could ask one of my professors to write me a rec for the common app. Do people do this? Is this allowed? Are there any drawbacks or benefits to this?

this is fine. i was a community college transfer student and both my letters of rec were from my professors at my community college. since you are not a transfer student i would make sure you have your second letter of rec from hs. it’s not looked down upon at all–as long as the letter makes you shine :)

By all means a letter of recommendation from a CC professor will only help you, providing of course, it is very positive.

^OOGkillaCam…The OP is a highschool student who is taking courses at a CC so considering this you should read more carefully and also stop making judgements so quickly. It will look excellent to have recommendations from CC professors especially as a highschool student.

haha nice job OOGkillaCam guess who makes the ivy league look bad now…

and thanks to all of you who answered! :)

Yes, you can get recommendations from your professors. I got several. OOGKillaCam, before you start stuff about others grow up. I can see that not every young adolescent is cognitively developed yet. It will be a disappointment to have these individuals in classes. They seem close minded and disrespectful.
